RELEASE - OCTOBER 2nd 2005 On October 2nd millions of Indians remembered the one hundred and thirty sixth birthday of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. Another birthday was also celebrated; but a first - that of Exodus Asia Pacific: India, a support network of Christians who help sexual strugglers overcome their problems. It is the newest member of the Exodus Asia Pacific network operating in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia. Exodus Asia Pacific equips and educates the church on ministry to the sexual struggler and is a member of the world wide Exodus Global Alliance. Director of Exodus Asia Pacific, Mr. Peter Lane, along with his wife Dot, birthed the network in Hyderabad, India. Based in Brisbane, Australia, they are currently making their annual teaching visit to India and other Asian countries. Speaking
from Hyderabad Mr. Lane said, “Our book Setting the Captives Free
was written to give help to the sexual struggler and published in
Hyderabad. Being in Hyderabad
on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday we felt this was God’s perfect timing and
opportunity to establish the Indian network. Already we have a Christians in other parts of India who wish
to be part of this network. Each
year we travel to India teaching in Christian churches and Bible colleges,
a Biblical understanding of sexuality.
We also teach how to counsel and care for sexual strugglers. We have met many Indian Christians who struggle with
addiction to pornography and immorality, or are victims of child sexual
abuse but feel they have no one who understands or cares about their
problems. Many Indian
Christian leaders whom we have met are recognizing that
the issue of sexuality must be addressed within the Church yet they
do not have these skills. We believe Exodus Asia Pacific: India can support sexual strugglers in their change and equip and educate the church on understanding how to do this. Jesus is the example of how the Church worldwide must respond to sexual strugglers. He showed compassion, forgiveness and restoration for the sexual struggler while at the same time calling them, like all people, to lead lives of holiness. The
mission of the Church has always been to go into a hurt and broken world
with the healing Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
For the Church in the 21st Century this must also
include proclaiming a Gospel of Sexual Redemption.” |
