MEDIA RELEASE:
21st Anniversary of Exodus Asia Pacific
In June 2009 Exodus Asia Pacific, a coalition of Christian ministries in
Australia and New Zealand to help those who wish to overcome unwanted same
sex struggles, will celebrate its 21st year as a member of the
world wide Exodus Global Alliance ( formerly Exodus International).
Exodus Global
Alliance has member ministries in North America, Canada, South America,
Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Exodus Asia Pacific was originally known as
Restoration Ministries when it was formed by Australian ministries in the
1980s. During the 1980’s Restoration Ministries established contact with
Exodus International, a world wide coalition of ministries to those wishing
to overcome unwanted same sex struggles.
By 1988 Restoration Ministries became a member of Exodus
International and changed its name to Exodus South Pacific. In 2001 the name
Exodus South Pacific was changed to Exodus Asia Pacific. This was to reflect
an on going concern and involvement by Exodus South Pacific ministries in
establishing other Exodus ministries in Asia.
Peter Lane has been the director of Exodus Asia Pacific
since 1988 till June 2009. He and his wife Dot now head up the On Eagles Wings ministry in
Brisbane which has a focus into Asia.
As in other similar “recovery ministries” Exodus has seen
many lives transformed from life controlling sexual and relational problems
by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
However, there have been those who have not been
transformed and people, now disillusioned, have become opponents of Exodus
and sometimes of Christ. As well, there are those not transformed and now
believing that same sex attraction is God’s will for their lives, have also
maintained their Christian faith.
In these 21 years of ministry Exodus has faithfully:
* Pioneered the message of sexual redemption in Australia, New Zealand and
parts of Asia.
* Proclaimed that there is healing and freedom through the Lord Jesus Christ
from sexual and relational problems.
* Provided support for sexual strugglers and their loved ones through
counseling and recovery groups.
* Equipped Churches through resources and seminars on how to help sexual
strugglers overcome their problems. The greatest resource is the testimony
of a transformed life.
* Established ministries across Asia Pacific.
In looking to the future, Exodus will continue to
proclaim one of the great mission calls of the 21st century
the “Gospel of Sexual redemption”. That, through the Lord Jesus Christ,
there is freedom from sexual and relational problems. |
